Delicato Family Vineyards in Manteca will host a fund-raising event to help send hundreds of Manteca Unified fourth graders to the Stockton Symphony concert at the Atherton Auditorium in Stockton.

The fund-raiser – an Evening of Music and Conversation with Maestro Peter Jaffe – will be held Friday, Oct. 23, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Delicato. Guests will enjoy the maestro’s appearance while enjoying an evening of hors d’oeuvres and wine in the Delicato Vineyards’ Tasting Room. Other entertainment during the evening’s social hour will be provided by the Manteca Music Educators who are making a return engagement this year.

Norm Knodt, chairman of the Symphony Comes to Manteca Committee, said the fund-raising event at Delicato Vineyards is “to help the school district with the costs of admission for the students (to the Atherton Auditorium concert) as well as the transportation to move approximately 2,000 people to Stockton and back.”

Last year, under the auspices of the Manteca Symphony Committee, 1,812 Manteca Unified fourth-grade students accompanied by 200 teachers and chaperons attended the Steppin’ Out concert at Atherton. MUSD superintendent Jason Messer considered this feat one of last year’s major accomplishments for the school district. The committee wants to duplicate that success. However, Knodt said they need the public’s help in trying to raise the money to make that a reality for the students by attending the fund-raiser at Delicato’s. Tickets are $35 per person and may be obtained by calling (209) 824-3401. Master Card or Visa credit card options are available, or mail reservation and check to: Manteca Symphony Committee, 12001 Highway 99, Manteca, CA 95336-8499.

Tax-exempt donations are also welcome.

The evening’s program will have the Manteca Music Educators performing from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. followed by the Maestro at the piano from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the conversation with Jaffe from 8:30 to 9 p.m.

The Steppin’ Up concert at Atherton Auditorium for the fourth graders will be held on Friday, Oct. 30.
