Youth Focus competition tonight, Saturday

Over the past six weeks, Manteca Youth Focus has hosted workshops, trainings and rehearsals all in preparation the 2014 Manteca Youth Focus extravaganza “Puttin’ on the Ritz” Scholarship Competitions. 

There are three age divisions participating in two separate shows at Calvary Community Church in Manteca. The first show is set for tonight at 6:30 p.m. and will feature contestants in the 16-20 age division. The remaining two divisions for ages 10-12 and 13-15 will compete at 11 a.m. on Saturday, also at Calvary. Tickets are $5 for each show and available for purchase at the door.

The show will feature entertainment with a special “Roaring 20’s” theme including local favorites Matt Vaughan and Dan Lansford serving as hosts and MYF alumni Kristina Candelaria, Ashley Gerstel, Katelyn Johnson, Ronnie Joy Rodrigues and Amanda Rosas as guest performers. 

Current reigning Miss Manteca Carolina Gutierrez and Manteca City Ambassador John Dumaguing will be on hand to crown their successors on Friday evening. On Saturday, Miss Young Manteca Ashlynn Nussbaumer, Young Manteca City Ambassador Brad LeBaron and Teen Manteca City Ambassador Eriq Kurys will assist with the awards for their respective age divisions.

The competitions under the direction of Shim Lacy-Watson and Judi Horton will also include a special feature presentation of the 2014 Mini Manteca Fun Campers ages 6-9, live on stage including Amadea Bettencourt, Megan LeBaron, Emily Motzkus, Citlaly Munoz, Kyra Plath, Taylor Stamper, Sophia Trujillo and Trystan Tuggle.

All participants will receive educational scholarships and the top 3 boys and girls in each age division earn “titles” representing signature events and organizations in the community. Contestants compete in 6 phases of competition including Community Service Résumé, Scholastic Achievement, Personality Interview, Community Advocacy Speech, Talent and Impromptu Questions. Miss Manteca Contestants:

• M1 Hannah Mattison Goe is 16 years old and a junior at Sierra High School. Sponsored by All American Logistics, LLC, she will present a sign language demo for her talent.

• M2 Liana Marie Bassett is 18-years old and a Sierra High School graduate in her first year at Modesto Junior College. Sponsored by Boutique Couture of Manteca, she will be presenting a vocal and guitar solo for her talent.

• M3 Chabryel Imani Fay is 16-years old and a junior at Sierra High School. Sponsored by Victorious Elite All-Stars, Core Athletic Performance, Healthy Fit Families Inc. Adventure Racing and Neon Night Run, she will be presenting a vocal solo for her talent.

• M4 Haley Nicole Nieves is 17 years old and a senior at Lathrop High School. Sponsored by her parents, she will be presenting an inspirational speech for her talent.

• M5 Priscilla Alexandra Ohnmacht is 15 years old and a sophomore at Sierra High School. Sponsored by Valley Food Equipment & Services, she will be presenting a martial arts demonstration for her talent.

Manteca City Ambassador Candidates:

• MA1 Colton Allan Harris is 17 years old and a senior at Sierra High School. Sponsored by Boutique Couture of Manteca, for his talent he will present a vocal solo.

• MA2 Jose Luis Fausto is 17 years old and a senior at East Union High School. Sponsored by Center Appliance, Boutique Couture of Manteca and Eva McHenry’s Childcare, Jose will be presenting an informative demonstration on his art.

Miss Teen Manteca Contestants:

• T1 Charissa Mae Goodman is 13 years old and in the 7th grade at Williams Middle School in Tracy. Sponsored by JM Equipment, she will be presenting a lyrical dance solo for her talent.

• T2 Katherine Lindsey Ray is 15 years old and in the 9th grade at Sierra High School. Sponsored by her parents Dale and Tanya Ray, she will be presenting a competitive cup stacking demo for her talent.

• T3 Allison Rae Nussbaumer is 14 years old and in the 9th grade at Big Valley Christian High School in Modesto. Sponsored by Debra Van Essen – Farmers Insurance Agency, she will be presenting an old school hip-hop dance solo for her talent.

• T5 Cynthia Frausto is 15 years old and in the 10th grade 

at Sierra High School. Sponsored by Sadie’s Salon, Photography by Anthony, Valencia’s Carniceria y Taqueria and Garcia’s Ornamental Iron Works, she will be presenting a vocal solo for her talent

Teen Manteca City Ambassador Candidate:

• TA1 Nathaniel Albert Padilla is 14 years old and in the 9th grade at Manteca High School. Sponsored by Dell Osso Farms, LLC, for his talent he will present a Zumba® demonstration.

Miss Young Manteca Contestants:

• Y1 Sydnee Isabella Navarro is 10 years old and in the 4th grade at Walter Woodward Elementary School. Sponsored by Sara Richards & Robert Dugo – stylists at Gavora Studio, Vadre Grigsby – owner of Gavora Studio, Linda Anne Stemler, Realon Dental of Lathrop and her grandparents, she will present a Tahitian dance solo for her talent.

• Y2 Arianna Jacqlyn Kurys is 11 years old and in the 6th grade at Brock Elliott Elementary School. Sponsored by family and friends, she will be presenting a vocal solo for her talent.

• Y3 Norene Jeanne Herzog is 10-years old and in the 4th grade at George McParland Elementary School. Sponsored by Donjo Enterprises, Inc., she will be presenting a vocal solo for her talent.

Young Manteca City Ambassador Candidate:

• YA1 Tyler Jordan Plath is 11 years old and in the 6th grade at Great Valley Academy. Sponsored by his family, for his talent he will present a vocal solo.
