Byron “Barney” Loek, 80, of Manteca died Wednesday, May 17, 2009. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
Barney and his predeceased wife of 50 years, Janice, moved to Manteca from the Bay Area in 1997. He and Janice enjoyed spending time at the Manteca Senior Center.
He is survived by his loving companion, Joan Atkisson. We welcomed her into our family and dad’s last years were very wonderful because of this relationship.
He loved bass fishing on the Delta and last fished March 11. He will be dearly missed by many, including his children Randy Loek, Diane Weggeland, Richard Loek and Wendy Freeman; siblings Violet Oliver, Verlin “Bud” Loek, Helen Lenchow and Barbara (Bob) Lawrence. He was predeceased by his daughter, Debra, brother, Al, and sister, Myrtle, parents Rose and Henry Loek.
