Carmel Jean Greene, long-time resident of Manteca, passed away early a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009.

 Born on May 25, 1936 in Stockton, she was the older of two children born to the late Gus and Florence Cerruti. She was preceded in death by her brother Dennis Cerruti.

Carmel was a beloved mother to David K. Greene and Julie DeLoach of Manteca, and Scott Green of Bellingham, WA. She was beloved “Nana” to David, Chris and Nicholas Greene, and Chelsie and Zachary Bonstein of Manteca, as well as Michael, Jessica and Janelle Greene of Bellingham, Washington.

Carmel was an attendance clerk at Shasta School for over twenty years and retired in 2003. She was well-loved and respected as a 25-year dedicated employee for the Manteca Unified School District. Her sense of humor and down-to-earth point of view were well-known and she will be remembered fondly for her euphemisms. Over the years, no matter where she was, former student and staff would see her and take the time to greet her warmly and recall a story they remembered when she worked at Shasta.

Carmel had a sweet spirit and personality that endeared her to everyone. Carmel’s joys were her great love for cats and cat collectibles, cherishing her friendships and joy at being at the ocean. She also was dedicated to giving unselfishly to numerous charities. She has a generous and compassionate spirit and was committed to sharing her blessings with her family, friends and community whenever possible.

Ms. Greene’s services are being handled by P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home of Manteca. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 31, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Community Church, 815 W Lathrop Rd. Manteca, California.
