Carolyn "Sue" Berthiaume, age 86, of Jefferson City, Missouri, formerly of Manteca, California, passed away at 2:21 p.m. on January 12, 2026, at SSM Health Saint Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City.

Sue was born on July 5, 1939, in Dyer, West Virginia, to the late Howard Hunter Horner and Hester Mary (Ferguson) Horner.

She was united in marriage to Joseph Berthiaume, who preceded her in death.

Sue is survived by her children: Patricia Meyers of Collinsville, Illinois; Christina Hake of Jefferson City, Missouri; James Lauderdale of San Antonio, Texas; and Michael Lauderdale of Jefferson City, Missouri. She is also survived by several great–great grandchildren, great–grandchildren, and grandchildren, including Suzanne Pinto, whom Sue lovingly raised from childhood.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sue was preceded in death by her daughter, Katherine Lauderdale, and her siblings, John L. Horner and JoAnn Farr.

Sue spent most of her career in property management, where she managed managers, financials, and legal records for multiple property owners. Her experience included apartments, condominiums, rental homes, and campgrounds. She took great pride in keeping everything organized and meticulously up to date.

Outside of work, Sue's greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and her beloved toy poodle, Joey. From the moment Joey was placed in Sue's care, he could most often be found curled up on her lap, happily pampered and deeply loved.

A memorial service will be held on February 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Chic Hair Lounge in Manteca, California. A graveside memorial service will be held in April at Lowry Hill Cemetery in Belle Rive, Illinois.
