Darryl E. (Rocky) Smith, 84, of Independence, KS, passed away at his home on December 2, 2011.

Mr. Smith was born in April of 1927 in St. Ansgar, Iowa. He moves to Manteca, in 1935, where he grew up and attended school. He co-owned and operated with his father, George M. Smith, an egg ranch in Manteca called Feather Acres. He also served for several years on the Manteca (Castle) School Board.

He married Edith L. Ketter on April 29, 1974 in Las Vegas, NV. They moved to Ventura, CA where he was self-employed as a welder for 21 years. In 1996, Darryl and Edith moved to Independence, KS to be closer to family.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents George and Alice Smith and his son, David Darryl Smith, Sr.

He is survived by his wife Edith, a step daughter Judy Taylor (Mike) of Independence, KS, a step son Jay Carter, a close longtime friend, Susanna Smith Oberst, nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at Park View Cemetery in French Camp.
