Diane Mae Fries, 78, of Sunol, CA passed away on February 21, 2012. She was born in Newark, California on October 1, 1933, the only child of Fred and Emily Rieder. She is survived by her daughters Lynnette McDonald (Frank) and Lori Konecny (Dave); her granddaughters Claire and Sarah and her cousin Norma Rezendes; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and god-children. Diane was predeceased by her loving husband Frank in November 2011.

Diane grew up in Newark and graduated from Notre Dame High School and San Jose State University. She earned her teaching credential and taught first grade and kindergarten for twelve years and remained a teacher at heart. She enjoyed her home in Sunol with Frank and her active part in that community. She was a "mother" to many, with her door and heart always open. She was a devout member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church. She loved going to the beach, skiing and traveling in their motor home as well as spending time at their cabin in Pinecrest. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends and family are invited to a Vigil on Tuesday, February 28, at 10:30 in the morning, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Pleasanton, California.

Burial will be at 10:30, Wednesday February 29 at St. Michael's Cemetery in Livermore. Callaghan Mortuary, 3833 East Ave. Livermore,CA. 925 447-2942
