Grace Hallman Smartt, age 93, passed away after a brief illness on January 9, 2012. Born March 28, 1918, in Skippack, PA, Grace moved to Ripon from Macon, GA, with her husband Ben and their four children in 1958. An active participant in Ripon and Manteca’s civic communities, Grace was an active decades-long member of the Atlanta Women’s Club, the Ripon Garden Club, and the United Methodist Women’s group at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener and was especially proud of her rose garden.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Ben Smartt of Ripon, children, Susan Smartt of Oakland, Mary Smartt of Vallejo, Tomoko Doerr of Stockton, and John Smartt of Napa; grandchildren, Michael Smartt, Allen Giles, David Smartt, Jessica Silva, Daniel Smartt and Mathew Stikes, five greatgrandchildren, sister Mary Conway of Pennsylvania, and niece Holly Germano of Montana. Grace was predeceased by her youngest son, Bob Smartt of Ripon.

The family was lucky to have Grace for 93 years, she will be dearly missed. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to the Historic Atlanta M.E.Cemetery, 14251 Lone Tree Road, Escalon, CA. 95320 where she is buried.
