Harold W. Martin
March 23, 1929-November 16, 2013
Harold Martin bw

Harold W. Martin, age 84, entered into rest on November 16, 2013 in Modesto.  He was born on March 23, 1929 in North Hollywood, CA, and called Manteca home since 1956.  He was preceded in death in 2009 by his wife of 57 years, Maybelle G. Martin and in 1958 by his son, Dennis Martin.
He is survived by his children; David and Debbie Martin of Tualatin, Oregon, Dean and Dee Martin of Modesto, Donn and Debbie Martin of Gilbert, Arizona and Denise Martin of Manteca; grandchildren; Jared Martin (Jill), Erin Martin Sivula (Mike), Brian Wakefield, Wendy Goodwin, Linda Martin Sanders (Ryan), Kyle Martin, Brett Martin, Blake Martin and Amanda Martin; and great grandchildren; Dylan, Trey, Lily, Jori, Kalli, Riley and Holden.  He was a devoted husband, father, uncle, “papa” and friend.
He was married in 1951 in Portland, Oregon and with his wife, Maybelle, and their three sons, moved to California in 1956 where he began his teaching career.  He taught at Dent School in Escalon, as well as Calla School in Manteca, but spent the majority of his teaching years in the math department at Manteca High.  He retired in 1986 but continued helping students through tutoring.  Mr. Martin had an enthusiastic love for teaching and he impacted many lives.  He loved to watch his students participate in sporting events, especially track meets.  He also was a high school football referee for many years.
Until his health declined, he was always very active with his church, teaching the adult Sunday School class, directing or singing in the choir for many years, and serving in leadership and missions.  Even in the midst of his long struggle with Alzheimer’s, his faith and love for God remained true.  He has left a great legacy and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
His family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Orangeburg Manor in Modesto for the excellent care he received since he moved there in 2009, as well as to the staff of Community Hospice the past four months.
