Commander Robert A. Hansen, Ret., of Manteca, CA, passed away on April 14, 2010 at his residence at the age of 81.  Robert was born on February 24, 1929 in Modesto, CA, to Alvin and Bess Hansen, and was raised along with his sister in Ripon.  He received his A.A. at Modesto Junior College, and later went on to earn his B.S. in Industrial Arts at San Jose State University in 1962.  On November 25, 1950, Robert married Nancy Hansen in Corpus Christi, TX, and together they raised their family in Livermore, CA. Robert would later retire to Manteca.  

Robert joined the US Navy in 1950, serving six active years as a navy pilot and another 17 years on naval reserves before retiring at the rank of commander.  Robert was later employed with the Lawrence Livermore Radiation Laboratory for 30 years as a senior engineer technologist.  He was an active member of the IOOF and the founder of the Livermore Rocketeers Club.  In his retirement years, one of Robert’s biggest joys besides his family was his Wednesday luncheons with his childhood buddies from Ripon at local restaurants.  His other interests and hobbies were radio controlled airplanes and making wind chimes for street fairs.
 Robert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Hansen; their children, Lauralee Hansen of Columbia, SC, Donald Hansen of San Ramon, CA, Diane Governor of Manteca, CA, and Darryl Hansen of Cool, CA; his grandchildren, Matthew Hansen of Santa Rosa, Anthony Nona of Merced, CA, Cristen Dismuke of Camarillo, CA, Michael Hansen of Discovery Bay, CA, Bryan Hansen of Cool, CA, Christopher Hansen of Cool, CA, Gregory Hansen of Cool, CA, Erin Hansen of San Ramon, CA, Robert Hansen of Manteca, CA, James Hansen of Cool, CA, and Rachel Hansen of Cool, CA; and his great-grandchildren, Faith Hansen and Zachary Hansen, both of Discovery Bay, CA.  He is preceded in death by his son, Dale Hansen, and his sister, Carla Hansen.

Funeral services for Robert will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Park View Memorial Chapel, 3661 E. French Camp Road in Manteca.  Internment at San Joaquin National Cemetery will be private.  Arrangements are being handled by Park View Funeral Home, 3661 E. French Camp Road in Manteca.
