Velma Vanderostyne BW

Velma Theresa VanDerostyne passed away peacefully, with family at her side, on July 16, 2014.
Formerly of Milpitas, CA; Velma resided in Manteca for the past 4 years. She was born in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on April 8, 1925, to Edward VanDenBroeke and Myrtle Bell Kozowski. Velma married Andrew VanDerostyne on February 12, 1946 in Taunton, Minnesota. The family moved to California in 1959, after many years of farming in southern Minnesota. Velma lived a full and busy life as mother, homemaker, gardener, and seamstress. She and Andrew were avid square dancers and loved to travel by motorhome throughout the country, visiting family and friends. Velma’s Catholic faith was a strong moral compass throughout her life. She will be remembered for her kindness and joyful love, given freely to all who knew her.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, and two grandchildren. She is survived by nine children, 19 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the excellent staff at both Merrill Gardens and Prestige Senior Living, for the loving care given to our Mother during her years in Manteca. Special thanks also go to Sister Anne of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Manteca; your weekly visits were very important to Velma.
Viewing will be Tuesday, July 22nd from 5pm-9pm at Lima Family Mortuary, 48800 Warm Springs Blvd., Fremont, CA 94539 (phone 408-263-2868). Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, July 23rd at 10am at St. John’s Catholic Church, 279 S. Main St., Milpitas, CA 95035.
