Wayne Arthur Johnson, 90, passed away peacefully on April 26 in Manteca, California.  Wayne was born on March 3, 1923 in Stockton, CA.  Wayne was a World War II veteran, serving his time in the Pacific Theatre and taking part in the Battle of Palou and the Occupation of Japan.  He settled in Manteca after the war and remained there for the remainder of his life, working as a farmer, for Best Fertilizer and Spreckle’s  Sugar. 

Although Wayne left farming, he had a life-long passion for growing vegetables.  His garden's first on Northland Rd. and then in El Rancho Mobile Home Park produced some of the finest tomatoes in the valley.  Wayne was very athletic and competitive.  He played softball and bowled until he was well into his sixties.  His skill on the pool table will long be remembered by anyone that had the opportunity to play with him.  Wayne's competitive spirit, charm and willingness to work hard endeared him to many, he will be missed by all of those who were blessed to know him.  

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn and sons, Bradley and Douglas.

He is survived by his children, Jerri (Greg), Wayne Jr, Benjamin (Michelle) and Melanie, grandchildren, Krista, Terry, Wayne III, Dylan, Kimberly, Kyle, Michael, Elisa, Anthony, Daniel, twelve great-grandchildren, and sister, Audrey.
