ACE cancels passenger service today, Tuesday

Heavy rains that have triggered a rapid snow melt have created unsafe track conditions prompting Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) to cancel all passenger service today and Tuesday.

Union Pacific Railroad — whose tracks ACE employs — is struggling with track outages dealing with washouts including derailments such as the one near Elk Grove. The railroad is rerouting trains and working with ACE to restore service.

“We sincerely apologize for the disruptions and impact to our customers, commuter partners and the communities we serve,” noted Justin Jacobs who serves as the director of media relations for Union Pacific out of Roseville.

Union Pacific is also dealing with evacuation orders related to the Oroville Dam spillway that is forcing a suspension of rail traffic north of Sacramento and thorough the Feather River canyon.
