A special “Hit the Streets for Hunger Fun Run” is set for Saturday, May 1, at the River Island Technology Campus in Lathrop that will include a one mile and a 5K run in support of those who are hungry every day in San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties. 

The run includes a pancake breakfast for the benefit the eighth grade class at River Islands Technology Academy in Lathrop set to begin at 8 a.m. and continue throughout the race.  Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. for an hour with the mile run beginning at 8:30 and the 5K set for a 9 a.m. start.  

The course layout stretches on a flat levee road once the runners are beyond the academy campus.  There are separate men’s and women’s categories with divisions separated by age groups from 10 and under to those over 70 years old. Each runner in both the one mile and the 5K races will receive a finisher’s medal.  A special medal will be given to the first male and the first female in each age category for the 5K race only.  

Finishers’ medals for the one mile and 5K races will be presented as runners cross the finish line.  The first male and first female in each age category for the 5K race will be presented their medals beginning at 10:15 a.m. and water will be served midway through the 5K run.  

Donations for individual runners is set at $25, family of four $80, additional family members $15 and children under 5 are free of charge. The cost of the pancake breakfast is $8.
