An urgent care center has opened its doors in downtown Manteca.

Manteca Urgent Care’s intent is to take the pressure off hospital emergency rooms. 

Karen Schaaf is a nurse practitioner at the facility under the direction of Dr. Min Wu, M.D. of Turlock.  Manteca Urgent Care is located at 241 West Yosemite Ave. It is now open for patients from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed an hour for lunch from 1 until 2 p.m. They plan to be open on the Friday after Thanksgiving when many doctors’ offices are closed and the ER rooms are busier than usual.

Dr. Wu has other urgent care facilities in both Turlock and Modesto.  It is the second urgent care to open in Manteca this month with another on West Yosemite Avenue, Modern Health Care, across from Kaiser Hospital.

The Manteca Urgent Care has two exam rooms and one procedure room, Schaaf said.  She added they take most all insurances with the exception of Kaiser and Health Net, and MediCal. 

Their available procedures include sutchering cuts to offering breathing treatments, checking urine samples and eye washes for those having foreign objects in their eyes as well as vitamin B-12 injections – to treating infants to older citizens with common ailments.

Schaff worked previously as a home health nurse in Stanislaus County and for the Golden Valley Health Center.  She noted that if their Manteca clients don’t have a primary care physician they will take care of them. 

“If it is more serious, we will send the patient to a hospital,” she said.
