The Ripon City Council has called for a special meeting on Tuesday, in part, to hammer out details on the residential large item pick-up program.
The session will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 259 N. Wilma Ave.
Not too long ago, elected leaders were leaning towards a self-hauling trash day event at the corporate yard in place of the familiar curbside spring clean-up program used here for the past 15 years.
Council members, however, opted for a schedule pick-up service of large unwanted items at the March 14 meeting after receiving concerns from residents on not having a truck or other means of disposing their trash under the initial self-hauling option.
Ted Johnston, who is the Director of Public Works, will be on hand to provide the specific of the proposed large item pick-up program.
Included will be the following:
uResidents of Ripon may schedule for disposal of large unwanted items between May and July by calling the Public Works Department.
uThey will be offered one scheduled pick-up during that period.
uCustomers would then receive a written confirmation of their scheduled pick-up.
uThey may place up to four large unwanted items on the curb in accordance to the list of acceptable items.
uThese large unwanted items must be placed on the curb in a manner that does not obstruct pedestrians or vehicle traffic.
If approved, the program could begin in May.
Public Works, in addition, would set aside two days each month for scheduled pick-ups during the collection period.
Those days would be selected based on the workload and staffing.
The scheduled pick-up days would be based on the estimated number customers that public works might be able to service in a single day.
In the other item, Engineering Supervisor James Pease will present a change order from North State Drilling on the Well 5 and Well 12 Rehabilitation Project.
The $32,287 would be funded from the Water Enterprise Capital Fund.
The change order was necessary for the installation of a new pump and motor at Well 5 and developing an alternate method of isolating one of the aquifers at the Well 12 site.
Council awarded the then $273,475 project to seal the upper strata of both Well 5 and Well 12 to North State Drilling last November.
