Sierra’s sophomore softball team did its best work in the clutch during its 4-3 home victory over Tracy Tuesday.

All four of the Timberwolves’ runs came with two outs and nobody on, and in the bottom of the seventh inning Chelsea Bereta blasted a triple to left to drive in the winning run (Erica Candido).

Down 2-0 in the fourth, Jessica Lewis knotted it up with a two-run triple with two outs. Pitcher Daylynn Penner (2 for 3) helped her own cause with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth.

Penner racked up eight strikeouts while giving up six hits and two walks from the circle.

“We made some early-season mistakes, but Daylynn pitched a heck of a game, and we made the plays when we had to,” said coach Bill Faulkner, whose team improved its preseason record to 2-0.
