Four different Buffaloes reached the end zone in a complete team effort on Thursday by defeating Stagg 42-0 as Manteca High’s freshmen moved its nonleague record to 3-0 and begins the Valley Oak League season next week.

Hector Soto (3-yard run, 2-yard run) and Andrew Gardner (22-yard reception, 11-yard run) each scored two touchdowns, while Anthony Kiefabber and Lechi Nkwocha added one rushing TD apiece.

Defensively, Luis Reyes, Eddie Gomes and Chris Sifuentes each picked off a pass, while Steven Martinez recorded 11 tackles.

“We were firing on all cylinders tonight, and we did not miss a beat when we subbed in our extra personnel after the half,” coach Jon Shaefer said. “As a coach, that’s great to see.”

Manteca 30, Deer Valley 12

On Sept. 8, the Buffaloes dominated all facets of the game after giving up a touchdown early in the third quarter that allowed Deer Valley to close in, 14-12.

Ultimately, the Wolverines of Antioch, had no answer for Steven Martinez (over 10 tackles, 3 sacks), Anthony Kiefabber (9 tackles, 2 sacks) and Lechi Nkwocha (7 tackles, sack). Luis Reyes contributed an interception.

On offense, QB Dominic Pisano hit Eddie Gomez for two touchdowns, while Hector Soto scored on a 19-yard run and converted three conversions -- two on runs and one on a pass from Greg Jones. Lechi Nkwocha put the game out of reach with a 3-yard TD scamper late in the third.

“We played a very good team tonight in Deer Valley,” Manteca coach Jon Shaefer said. “They were big and fast as expected, but we told our players before the game if we jumped on them fast (and) put them in a hole we would be in the driver’s seat.”
