HILMAR — Jacob Duxbury put the finishing touches on his big night with a 52-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter with 3 minutes, 10 seconds left, and Ripon celebrated a 52-35 win over Hilmar to open the Trans-Valley League schedule Friday.

Duxbury rushed for 208 yards, gained 114 more receiving and totaled three touchdowns on the night. Nick Price hit him for a 70-yard pass play to cap a staggering 28-0 first-quarter spurt. The Indians (1-0 TVL, 3-3 overall) led 31-6 at halftime.

Hilmar (0-1, 3-3), though, was able to make a game of it. Daniel Texeira, who threw for more than 300 yards, connected with Nick Olivera and Alex Chavez for 9- and 8-yard scores to close the Yellow Jackets in 31-20 in the third. Ripon answered with Duxbury’s 53-yard touchdown jaunt.

The two teams continued to trade blows in the fourth quarter until Duxbury’s knocked Hilmar down for good. Texeira threw for two more touchdowns in the final period and finished with five total.

Ripon heads to winless Mountain House next week.
