Ripon Christian is returning to the Big Dance.

The top-seeded Knights (11-1) punched their ticket to next week's Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII-A Championship game by disposing of visiting Rio Vista Friday, 42-0.

This was the third go-around between the two teams in recent years.

The Rams (8-3) were the No. 4 team in the D-VII playoffs.

RC will face another familiar foe in Orestimba, a 49-14 winner over Southern League rival Le Grand, in the title

game.

"There's a few things we will need to clean up before then," said Knights coach Phil Grams.

Against Rio Vista, RC went from averaging three penalties per game to committing five such infractions including three of the 15-yard variety.

"We went from zero turnovers to four tonight," Grams added.

As for the semifinals clash, Knights quarterback Mason Tameling completed seven of his eight passes for 130 yards with an interception while throwing for three first-half touchdowns.

Grant Sonke, who rushed for a game-high 94 yards on 11 carries, cashed in on an early turnover as RC was off and running.

Jace Beidleman intercepted a pass on the Rams' 32 on just the second play of the game. Sonke followed that up with a pickup of 21 yards, scoring on a 1-yard run.

On RC's next possession, Mason hit Preston Zuidervaart for a big gain. He then connected with Amos Cady on a 13-yard scoring strike.

Early in the second quarter, Mason found Luke Crivello, who turned the pass play into a 16-yard touchdown.

Rio Vista threatened moments later, driving the ball to the RC 12.

The Knights' defense stiffened from there, with Josh Miller and Ethan Schenk making some big stops.

RC overcame a string of penalties to produce one more score before halftime.

Tameling hit Brady Grondz for a big gain, flipping a 2-yard toss to the 6-foot-9 Beidleman for the TD.

The Knights added two more scores in the third quarter to force a running clock to close out the game.

Trevor Van Elderen slipped through for a 20-yard touchdown run and Grondz found paydirt from 4 yards out.

Defensively, Miller was in on nine tackles with one quarterback sack. Zuidervaart chipped in on eight tackles.

Beidleman tallied seven tackles coupled with two interceptions.

RC defeated Orestimba earlier this season, 42-12.
