Lathrop exploded for 21 first-quarter points and coasted to a 39-21 win over host Grace Davis on Thursday.
The Western Athletic Conference contest took place at Downey High of Modesto. The win sets up a big matchup with surprising Johansen next week. Johansen (3-0 WAC, 5-1 overall) faces reigning champion Los Banos (3-0, 5-1) at home tonight.
Lathrop (4-0, 5-2) again used its powerful run game to keep its spot atop the WAC standings. The Spartans piled up 342 yards all on the ground, while the defense only surrendered 158 total yards.
Lathrop had five different touchdown scorers led by Julio Garcia, who finished with 13 carries for 111 yards and two scores. Fullback Pablo Pena plowed his way to 102 yards and a TD on just 10 attempts.
Jimari Dove (12 rushes, 71 yards), Andre Muqhar (five rushes, 26 yards) and quarterback Jordan Blasé added one touchdown each.
Lathrop led comfortably at 39-14 until Lukas Silva scored on a 4-yard run for Grace Davis (1-3, 1-6) with 1:24 remaining. Receiver Miguel Olvera Deanda caught TD passes of 45 and 16 yards.
