The young Timberwolves continued to take their share of growing pains following Friday's 55-0 loss to perennial Valley Oak League power Oakdale at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.
"That's a class program," said Sierra High coach Chris Johnson, who strongly believes his team will gain valuable experience by playing top teams such as the Mustangs.
The Timberwolves (1-3 VOL, 1-7 overall) were hampered by turnovers early on, leading to Oakdale (2-2, 5-2) quickly jumping out ahead.
On the second play from scrimmage, Sierra coughed up the ball inside its own 30. Oakdale's Yamir Ayala, who reeled off 20 yards on his first carry, scored from five yards out.
About two minutes later, the Mustangs were back in business after Rocky Richardson blocked a punt. On the next play, quarterback Jackson Holt hit Mickey Merzon on a 16-yard scoring strike.
Kevin Camelin booted the extra-point, giving Oakdale a 14-0 advantage.
Merzon and Camelin accounted for the bulk of the scoring.
Merzon, who caught four passes for 59 yards, picked up 51 more on the ground.
He connected with Holt on a 25-yard score later in the first and scampered for a 15-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Camelin rushed for a game-high 91 yards on 13 carries. He scored on runs of 14-, 7-, and 10- yards.
Oakdale took a 35-0 lead at half on Dalton Vargas' 9-yard TD run to close out the second.
The second half was a running clock, accounting for the early exit.
The Timberwolves, meanwhile, couldn't muster much on offense with Ben Wheeler being the top ball carrier with eight yards.
Seth Villanueva had punts of 46, 42, and 36 in the first half while Ryan Torres and Jaycob Beasley were among those who had standout moments on defense.
