Opening drive sets tone for Manteca victory
Manteca High

Manteca needed just three plays to gain 62 yards and score a touchdown to start its freshman football season Thursday on the way to a 20-0 non-league freshman win over Lathrop at Guss Schmiedt Field.

Khalid Robinson had all 62 of those yards – including a 24-yard touchdown scamper – and led the pounding Buffaloes ground game with 120 yards on 15 carries with an additional touchdown run of 3 yards.

Teammate Joel Yuson had the other Manteca score on a 37-yard run and finished with 98 yards on eight carries. Dominic Alvarez added 33 yards on seven carries and did an outstanding job of lead blocking for Robinson and Yuson.

Midway through the fourth quarter the Spartans had their deepest penetration of the night – to the Manteca 4-yard line – only to come up short when Michael Frisby recovered a Lathrop fumble. Alvarez recovered an onside kick and Robinson had an interception.
