East Union had the tough task at hand Friday against Central Catholic.
No surprise that the Raiders handled their business, disposing of the Lancers 42-13 to set up next week’s Valley Oak League clash against Oakdale for the title.
“Our kids proved that they can four quarters against a team like Central,” said East Union coach Willie Herrera.
The Lancers (0-6 in VOL, 3-6 overall) also forced three turnovers. Safety Isiah Cormier forced a second-quarter fumble.
In the second half, Jake Harries scooped up a loose ball and rumbled 20 yards and nose guard Pete Roblero recovered a fumble.
Quarterback Jack Weaver completed a pair of touchdown passes and also rushed for 36 yards. He connected with Baily Simons on a 26-yard scoring strike midway through the second quarter. Weaver and Simons combined on a 9-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Central Catholic (6-0, 9-0) jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead, making it 28-0 following a 2-yard scoring plunge by Kekupaa Freehauf.
Hunter Petlansky also scooted for an 82-yard touchdown run to further extend the lead for the Raiders, who also came up big on special teams in the second half.
Jared Rice came through with a 93-yard kickoff return in the third.
East Union will close out the season next week at Manteca.
