MARIPOSA — Ripon Christian standout quarterback Danny Vos was rushed to a nearby hospital for a possible concussion during the Knights’ 27-7 loss to Mariposa.

Ripon Christian coach John Vander Schaaf said he was hit while going out of bounds in a third-quarter play.

The Knights (0-2 Southern League, 1-4 overall) totaled just 64 yards rushing and 71 yards passing — meager numbers for an attack that put up over 30 points in its previous two contests.

“Those are kind of small numbers for what we are used to putting up,” Vander Schaaf said. “Once our quarterback went down with an injury in the third quarter, we had to rely on the run game, and we are not normally a one-dimensional team.”

Kalvin Prins set up the only score for Knights when he made an interception in the second quarter. Andrew Brown made Mariposa (2-0, 2-2) pay for that turnover with a 4-yard touchdown run to come within 5, 12-7.

Mariposa took advantage of two Ripon Christian miscues that helped negate an otherwise stellar performance by the Knights defensive line.

“I have to give kudos to our defensive line,” Ripon Christian coach John Vander Schaaf said. “They scored on an interception return and when our defensive back slipped. We really shut down their running game.”
