Sierra boys, Lathrop girls garner team titles

 Thirteen meet records were broken Friday during The Timberwolf Invitational at Sierra High’s Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.

Host Sierra won the boys title while eclipsing three of those old marks. The T’wolves totaled 150 points and were followed by Lathrop (112), Ripon (100), Central Catholic (80), Golden Valley (75.5), Bret Harte (55.5), Calaveras (45), Hughson (12), Summerville (5), Big Valley Christian (5) and Linden (3).

Lathrop claimed the girls crown with 115 points, edging out runner-up Sierra (109) and Calaveras (104). Ripon (83), Golden Valley (56), Bret Harte (50) Summerville (49), Big Valley Christian (25), Linden (21), Central Catholic (15), Hughson (9) and Enochs (5).

Teegan Nazzisi was among the Timberwolves’ top performers. The senior shattered the old shot put record previously held by Sierra alumnus and state-meet qualifier Holden Fishburn. He won the event with a top mark of 53 feet, 1 ½ inches — a new personal best. He also set a personal record in the discus, placing fifth with a 120-07.

Christian Gonzalez won the 800 with a meet-record time of 2 minutes, 2.33 seconds. He also took second in the 1,600.

Anthony Glover won the 400-meter dash in 51.68 seconds and keyed the record-setting effort for Sierra’s mile relay, which won in 3:34.35. The 4x400 included Mantjoj Grewal (second, 110 hurdles; second 300 hurdles), Kenneth Roach (second, 400) and Sebastien Paterson.

Francis Bravo (100) and Oluwademilade Akinleye (long jump) were both runner-up placers in individual events and featured in Sierra’s second-place 4x100 relay that included Brayden Vargas Daniels and Eli Phifer.

Max Perez (second, 3,200) and BJ Cutar (third, triple jump) also earned top-three medals for Sierra.

Felisa Beard was part of two record-setting performances for the Sierra girls. She clocked a personal best 26.25 in winning the 200, and she helped the Timberwolves’ 4x100 — including Khamylle Bollengier, Sofia Montes and Leslie Reyes — blow past the old meet record in 50.22.

Beard garnered three medals in all, taking third in the 100.

Sierra’s Anna Dittman picked up first-place points in the 800 (2:30.46) and 1,600 (5:31.71). Mya Everett was another big producer with a first in the long jump (15-04) and thirds in the high jump and triple jump.

The 4x400 team won in 4:20.78. Joining Bollengier on the mile relay were Jazmine Calderon Banda, Alyssa Rodriguez and Naomi Ross.

Mamana Felesialangi Inia contributed a third-place finish in the discus, while Mia Ona took third in the pole vault.

Lathrop managed to win the girls championship with just won event winner — Moira Ramones took the triple jump title with a mark of 33-09 and finished third in the long jump.

Morgan Emery added two runner-up finishes in the 800 and 3,200. Faith Allen (second, 300 hurdles; third, 4x100), Jazmine Sorrell Williams (second, shot put) and Alyvia Galano (second, pole vault) round out the Spartans’ medal recipients.

Riley Gier highlighted Lathrop’s boys team. He’s the new meet record holder in the 1,600 after clocking a new PR of 4:25.99). He also won the 3,200 in 10:00.85.

Andres Hurtado (second, 800; second, 4x800), Treydon Santos (second, high jump; third 110 hurdles), and Jaylen Santos Howard (third, 300 hurdles) are other top-three placers for the Spartans.

Ripon left its mark with three meet records.

Andrew Shaw (200, 23.18) and Kaiya Kroutil (400, 58.28) did it in the sprints, while the all-sophomore girls 4x800 quartet of Madie Roberts, Cheyann Roberts, Paige Thomas and Giuliana Locarnini set the new standard in 10:55.99.

Shaw was also part of the third-place 4x100.

Lucas de Vera, Matteo de Verak, Jacob Bair and Landen Morse won the boys 4x800 in 9:06.92. William Verver (discus) and Jude Viss (triple jump) each contributed a second place in field events.

second in 100 hurdles. Sophia Jung paced her way to a gold medal in the 3,200 (12:44.77) and a bronze in the 1,600.

Other new meet record holders: Central Catholic’s Chris Lalic (100, 11.06), Golden Valley’s Quincy Brown (triple jump, 42-11) and Zoe Gonzales (300 hurdles, 45.95), and Bret Harte’s Ayla Jodie (pole vault, 10-0).
