The winter break has been anything but a break for Lathrop High’s wrestling program.

On Tuesday, the Spartans’ varsity grapplers completed the two-day Modesto Junior College Invitational and five of them had top-six finishes. Leading the charge was Alex Garcia, who was 3-0 in claiming the 132-pound division. It’s his second tourney title of the young season; earlier this month he captured gold at 138 pounds and was named Most Valuable Wrestler of the Ceres Bulldog Invitational.

Cristian Garcia also continued to build on his strong start, going 4-1 for third place at 126. Tyler Kerlegan finished 3-1 in the 195 class and also ended up with bronze. Heavyweight Brian Folgar placed fifth (2-2), while Manuel Valim took sixth (3-2) at 160. Matthew Hernandez, 285, and Joshua Suarez, 120, each won a match and took seventh and eighth, respectively.

Last weekend, Lathrop sent its JV and girls squads to the Pacheco Tournament in Los Banos. Stephanie Rosillo highlighted the group by taking first with a 5-0 record. Mirando Holt (second, 4-1) and Karrissa Kammen (third, 3-2) also earned top-three medals.

In the JV portion of the event, Jagroop Singh (4-1) and Alejandro Tovar (3-1) were each runners-up, while Dominic Archibeaue (2-1) and Alejandro Tovar (3-1) both came in fourth.
