Buffaloes bounce back after suffering first loss

Manteca got back on the winning track Thursday as it knocked off Lathrop 8-1 during a Valley Oak League matchup.

This was the Buffaloes’ first time back on the court since losing a one-point contest against first-place Kimball last week. Manteca’s No. 1 Yok-Jing Ma and No. 2 Mike Lopez both won in straight sets, as did Thomas Reza (No. 5) and Alex Vasquez (No. 6) against the Spartans.

Lathrop’s Jared Palma registered his squad’s only point with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 victory over Spencer Jackson. The Buffaloes’ No. 3 Gino Mercado edged the Spartans’ Arvin Aragon 7-6 (2), 2-6, 10-8.

In doubles action, Manteca got the sweep with straight-set victories from its No. 1 doubles team of Yok-Eyh Ma and Nolan Osborn and its No. 3 tandem of Kyle Thornburg and Christian Plares.

Manteca’s No. 2 duo of Yayha Shabbar and Edvin Pepic knocked off Lathrop’s Chris Consul and Sahib Singh 6-2, 7-6 (2).

Oakdale 5, Sierra 4

The Timberwolves led 4-2 after singles matches concluded, but the Mustangs swept all three doubles matches to edge Sierra out at home. Keegan D’Souza knocked off Josh Niendorf of Oakdale 6-3, 6-3. Laic Beugre fell to Oakdale’s Spencer Keyser, but Mark Daule Jr. got a point back for Sierra with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Zack Miller. Adam Searle (No. 4) of Sierra won 6-0, 6-0 and Anthony Alcantar (No. 6) won 6-1, 6-3. Josh Hernandez lost in the No. 5 singles slot for Sierra..
