Yes on Q effort surpasses $100K to push passage
Manteca businesses, labor groups, firefighters, local residents, youth sports organizations, and builders have a lot riding on Measure Q on Tuesday’s ballot. As of Oct. 27, the Yes on Q Committee has now raised $103,549.30 to fund its campaign to gain passage of the 20-year long three-quarter cent sales tax on Nov. 5.

Eric Godfrey led three in double-digit scoring with 15 points, as Manteca High’s sophomore boys basketball team defeated Ripon 47-32 in its own Block M Tournament Monday at Winter Gym.

The Buffaloes (7-2) meet Edison of Stockton at 8:15 tonight for the title.

Post players C.J. Rivas and Matt Burrows contributed 11 points apiece.

Manteca 59, Tracy 46

C.J. Rivas pumped in a team-high 17 points to lead the Buffaloes to the tournament-opening victory Saturday.
Taylor Hasal and Jahan Petiford contributed nine apiece.

East Union 47, Tracy 38

The Pages (6-2) overcame 26 turnovers and a sluggish start to the second half to advance to the tournament’s final round.

Brandon Cline and Brock Swift scored 10 points each to lead the way, while Alex Del Rio added nine points to go with 11 rebounds.

East Union faces either West or Modesto today at 6:45 p.m.

Sierra 44, Lathrop 28

Kayson Matela and Tim Thornton each dropped in 10 points to lead the Timberwolves to victory.

Sierra plays for the consolation championship at Winter Gym. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.

Myklyn Balmut scored eight points for the Buffaloes (5-4), who clinched the consolation championship with the victory.

All-tournament selection Jessica Reeder added seven points, while Mia Ramirez finished with six.

Sierra 52, Edison 30

Lia Unterholzner churned out 22 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks to lead the tournament host Timberwolves to a seventh-place finish.

Allison Armstrong chipped in 12 points, Linese Cabida added eight and Jessica Aguilar had four.
