The Wagner College women’s water polo team reaped the benefits of a blistering start to Mantecan Jessica Burdge’s sophomore season. She scored 12 points on 11 goals and an assist in the Brown Invitational and was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors Tuesday.

Wagner is located in State Island, NY and competes on the NCAA Division-I level. Burdge is a starter for the Seahawks (3-1) and graduate of St. Mary’s High in Stockton. The two time first team All-TCAL water polo standout joined the Wagner program right out of high school.

Burdge opened the season with a three-goal performance in a 8-7 win over Brown, followed by another three-goal outing in a 14-7 win over Claremont Mudd Scripps. She would add another three-goal game in a come-from-behind win over Colorado State, followed by two goals and an assist in a 5-4 championship match loss to host Brown.

Burdge and her Wagner teammates will make their way to the west coast in early March, when they compete in the Roadrunner Invite in Bakersfield.
