The Comcast Hometown Network will televise 13 Northern California high school football games this fall, and among them will be the Oct. 30 matchup between Manteca and Oakdale at The Corral.
The game will be shown on channel 104 to all Comcast digital television customers throughout Northern and Central California on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
Dan Dibley of KNBR 680 AM will provide the play-by-play and will be joined in the booth by former San Jose SaberCats head coach Darren Arbet and University of Nevada football analyst Scott Gordon.
The game will be replayed several times and will be available on Comcast’s OnDemand platform.
“It’s exciting,” Manteca head coach Eric Reis said. “For a while we’ve known that the Valley Oak League is one of the top leagues around, now we have a great chance to show it to the rest of Northern California.
“It’s a great honor.”
The Buffaloes and Mustangs have turned in many memorable contests throughout the past decade, which has seen both Manteca (three) and Oakdale (one) claim Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV championships.
Oakdale was the last to win a section crown in 2007. That year, Manteca was riding California’s longest high school winning streak (26) before the Mustangs ended the run with a thrilling one-point win at The Corral in front of a standing-room-only audience.
Oakdale has dropped just one VOL contest on their home turf since 2001.
“Two years ago, they were section champs, and I couldn’t have been more proud of my team,” Reis said. “Even though we came out on the back side of that one, we were able to walk off the field proud that we had been a part of something that special.
“It was a huge crowd and both teams played their guts out. It was a great high school experience.”
It’s that type of magic Comcast hopes to capture in Week 8, and early prognostications dictate the network may not be disappointed.
Manteca heads into 2009 as a preseason favorite to once again claim the VOL crown, as do the Mustangs. Since 2001, Oakdale has claimed five VOL titles, while Manteca has collected three.
Comcast’s Northern and Central California regions serve more than 2.4 million customers.
