Cougars still perfect after win over EU

East Union’s sophomore girls basketball teamwas able to battle through the first quarter of play, but speed began to wear on the Lancers over time, falling in their Valley Oak League contest with Weston Ranch 41-22 Tuesday in Stockton.

The Cougars (7-0 VOL, 14-2 overall) used strong second and fourth quarters to leave the Lancers gripping with their second league loss on the season. Weston Ranch was able to outscore East Union by 14 points combined in the two quarters, closing out the fourth with a 10-2 run.

East Union (5-2, 11-4) got nine points from Marina Salyer, but no other Lancer was able to score more than five points.

The Cougars were led by Aljanea Brown who poured in a game-high 13 points, followed by teammate Anna Haley who finished in double figures with 10. Weston Ranch will try and remain perfect Thursday as they open the second half of the VOL season with a visit from the Manteca Buffaloes.

Manteca 41, Sierra 37

Manveer Hundall poured in 12 points to help the host Buffaloes improve to 3-4 in the VOL. Jasmine Odell added nine.

Valerie Nestor and Allison Walljasper had 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Sierra.

Freshman

Sierra 41, Manteca 34

Courtenay Brown amassed 16 points, seven steals and six rebounds for Sierra (5-2).

Kayla Honeycutt produced 15 points and four steals. Desiree Osakue contributed with 10 rebounds.

Weston Ranch 53,

East Union 19

Victoria Vezaldenos did most of the damage for EU, grinding out 12 points and 14 rebounds at Weston Ranch.
