Manteca and East Union are one and done in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs.

The 11th-seeded Buffaloes of Manteca gave No. 6 El Capitan an early scare before falling in four games Tuesday, 25-20, 27-29, 10-25, 15-25 in Merced, while No. 13 East Union was swept at No. 4 Yuba City, 7-25, 17-25, 13-25. It was the first postseason match in four years for both of the local clubs.

Manteca (15-9) may have lost the match in the crucial second set when it had leads of 24-23 and 25-24. El Capitan (20-7) faces third-seeded Vista del Lago on Thursday.

Payton Reis led the Buffaloes with 14 kills. Kacy Bolding had seven kills to go with seven assists. Kaitlyn Morenzone handed out 16 assists and served nine points. Morgan Miramontes and Taylor Bays contributed 13 and 12 digs, respectively.

In Yuba City, the host Honkers (24-7) ended the first two sets on big runs before completing the sweep of East Union. The Lancers (17-8) trailed just 8-7 in the first set before Yuba City went on a monster run to win.

“In summary, we didn’t have an answer for Yuba City’s outside hitter Lauren Danna who probably had over 15 kills against us,” East Union coach Rich Posz said. “The girls did compete to the very end and I am proud of the season we had and how the girls competed this year.

Allisa Burrola had eight digs, three kills and an ace for the Lancers. Sophie Williams added  five blocks and two kills, LaEssa Pierce eight digs, Mellisa King seven assists and two kills and Mariah Jeffery two kills and one and one-half blocks.
