Tuesday’s wins turned out to be big for the East Union and Manteca volleyball teams.

East Union beat crosstown rival Sierra in four games in the Valley Oak League finale, while Manteca swept Kimball as both squads secured the final two playoff berths in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-III bracket.

The section released the brackets Thursday. Ripon Christian, as expected, is the top-seeded club in Division V, and Ripon gets to host a first-round match in Division IV.

East Union (9-6), which beat Manteca twice in five games to earn the higher seed, heads to Folsom next Tuesday to face No. 2 Vista del Lago (31-9), co-champion of the Sierra Valley Conference. Fifteenth-seeded Manteca (9-11) is paired with Sacramento powerhouse Christian Brothers (24-11). The No. 1 Falcons captured five straight SJS titles in Division IV before moving up to D-III last year.

In Division IV, defending titlist Ripon (12-12) takes on West Campus (20-8) of Sacramento with a possible second-round meeting with Trans-Valley League rival and top-seeded Escalon looming. Escalon beat Ripon twice in conference play and snapped the Indians’ five-year reign atop the TVL.

Ripon Christian (25-13) is awarded a first-round bye in the 12-team bracket in Division V and won’t play until Thursday, Nov. 10. The Knights, who have won four straight section crowns and owns a section-high 14 total, awaits the winner of the 8-9 matchup between Forest Lake Christian and Southern League foe Turlock Christian.
