EU swings past Sierra for VOL victory

East Union picked up four of its points from singles victories during Thursday’s 6-3 Valley Oak League victory over host Sierra.

The Lancers’ No. 2 singles player Olivia Vezaldenos (8-6, 6-0), No. 3 Araceli Gonzalez (6-2, 6-2), No. 4 Deanna Baker (6-3, 6-0) and No. 5 Mandi Roberts (6-1, 6-4) all picked up points. Sierra’s No. 1 singles player Anna Cardenas defeated Brooke Niendorf in straight sets (6-2, 6-4), while Sierra’s other singles point came from forfeit.

East Union’s No. 1 doubles tandem of Nayelo Del Real and Marisa Moreno earned a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory, as did its No. 3 doubles team of Tabatha Barrington and Astrid Hernandez (6-0, 6-3). Sierra’s No. 2 doubles Shelby Owensby and Nour Hamza picked up a three-set victory (1-6, 6-4, 10-2).

EU will host Lathrop Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., while Sierra will visit Sonora.



Manteca 9, Sonora 0

The Buffaloes improved to 8-0 in the VOL, 11-3 overall after sweeping Sonora in all straight-set victories.

Liz Diaz (6-2, 6-0), Sealy McAdams (6-2, 6-1), Elizabeth Tolbert (6-3, 6-3), Julie Saling (6-0, 6-2), Fechi Nkwocha (6-0, 6-0) and Allison Ranchels (6-0, 6-1) tallied Manteca’s six singles points.

Jasmine Ellington and Katie Inderbitzen, Manteca’s No. 1 doubles team, earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Kaitlyn Hoyer and Alondra Avila (No. 2 doubles) won 6-4, 6-0 and Megan Gonzales and Haylee Both (No. 3 doubles) won 6-2, 6-1.

Manteca will be at Weston Ranch at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
