TURLOCK — Ripon knocked off two Modesto schools Friday to reach the semifinal round of the Pitman Shootout at Turlock Regional Sports Complex.
The unbeaten Indians opened with a 2-1 shootout win over reigning Western Athletic Conference champion Beyer before coasting past Gregori, 4-1. They’ll play again this morning at 10:20 before concluding the 16-team tournament later in the day in the third-place game or the championship.
Ripon (5-0) and Beyer battled to a 1-1 draw in regulation Friday morning and won it on penalties, 3-0. Kailey Tijero, Ari Scholten and Aubree Pelon made their PKs.
“We worked hard in shootouts this week and it paid off,” Ripon coach Bryce Perkins said.
Freshman Ari Daniels scored the first goal of her varsity career in regulation and was set up by Pelon’s through ball 8 minutes into the second half. Beyer earlier notched its lone goal in the 24th minute.
Game 2 was all Ripon from the start, as Devaney Dougherty tallied two goals and an assist. Her assist to Burton in the 14th minute put the Indians up, 3-0. Hailey Peterson added a goal and an assist. Scholten contributed an assist.
Ashley Pugh collected five saves for the day.

Lathrop splits
The Spartans (3-5) had mixed results on Day 1 of the Pitman Shootout.
They first ran into a juggernaut in Pleasant Grove (5-0-2) of Elk Grove, losing handily, 10-0. Lathrop bounced back with a 6-2 victory over Lincoln of San Francisco.
“We looked good against a team closer to our level,” Lathrop coach Jose Montes said. “These were two good games for us to play.”
