RIPON — Ripon hit the pool swimming Thursday, dominating visiting Sierra and Kimball to sweep the Valley Oak League-opening tri-meet at Ervin Zador Aquatic Center.

The reigning champion Indians girls team blew past Kimball 109-56 and waxed Sierra, 117-50. Ripon also took down defending VOL boys champion Sierra, which has just eight swimmers this season, 104-60. The Kimball score was, 98-56.

Ripon’s girls won all but two races.

Mallory Brubaker earned Sac-Joaquin Section qualifying times in winning the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races. Teammate Amy Bacay also made sections in both events.

Amber Scheid spearheaded a fast 200 individual medley, with runner-up Megan Tolman of Sierra and teammate Eleanor Tran also clocking section-qualifying times.

Andria Martin was a double winner in the 50 free and 100 backstroke, and Elizabeth Winter took the 100 free.

Tolman edged out Scheid in the 100 breaststroke, and both are bound for sections in the event. Ripon took first in the 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free relays.

Lucas Esenwein paced the Ripon boys with section-qualifying times in the 50 free and 100 free. Noah Esenwein took first in the 200 free but was nipped by Sierra’s David Tolman (1:05.41) by 0.41 seconds in the 100 breaststroke.

Returning CIF State qualifier Ty Wells scored first-place points for Ripon in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

Ripon hosts another tri-meet on March 30, welcoming Oakdale and East Union.
