Lathrop girls fall short while Sierra boys dominate

The Sierra High Timberwolves swept host Lathrop at Thursday’s Valley Oak League meet.

The Spartan girls made it close, taking first-place in eight events only to fall short, 90-76.

For Sierra, Michelle Berber claimed the 100 butterfly (1 minute, 27.07 seconds), Andrea Cruz took the 100 freestyle (1:11.86), and Karina Berber captured the 100 backstroke (1:31.76).

The Timberwolves’ boys team won more decisively 129-25 and swept the relays – 200 medley (1:47.25), 200 freestyle (1:35.22), and 400 freestyle (3:31.68) – along with the individual events.

The winners included John Buonauro (200 freestyle), Nic Perez (200 individual medley), Scott Tolman (50 freestyle), Trevor Fast (100 butterfly), Brooks Cannon (500 freestyle), David Tolman (100 breaststroke) and Nik Brink (100 backstroke).

 

Junior varsity

Sierra 70, Lathrop 39 (G)

Caroline Ortega and Melissa McClure led the Timberwolves, capturing two events each.

Ortega was first in the 50 breast stroke (1:00.25) and 100 individual medley (1:45.78) while McClure took the 50 freestyle (36.83) and 100 freestyle (1:22.51).
