Lathrop girls roll into league with 7-1 record

Brianna Fernandez buried 10 of 14 free throws and scored 18 points to lead Lathrop High’s sophomore girls basketball team to a 56-44 win over Tokay of Lodi Wednesday.

The Spartans roll into Valley Oak League play with a 7-1 record and faces off with visiting East Union next Wednesday.

Janessa Alejandro contributed 15 points for Lathrop, and Akilah Lesley scored 14. The Spartans were behind 29-23 at halftime before taking over defensively. They outscored Tokay 14-2 in the final quarter.

Weston Ranch 65, Campolindo 25

The Cougars had little trouble destroying tournament foe Campolinda, handling the club by 40-points Wednesday in the West Coast Jamboree.

Aaliyah Thomas led the Cougars with 17 points, while teammate Brianna White added 13.

Freshman Girls

Lathrop 46, Tokay 6

The Spartans (5-3) cruised behind a stifling defense and balanced scoring.

Brendalyn Gamboa, Lauren Collins and Jennifer McLaurin each contributed seven points, and Erin Ladawn Moore added five points and eight rebounds.

Sophomore boys

East Union 50, Ripon 38

Jordan Perry poured in 14 points as the Squires (5-4) cruised into the semifinal round of Manteca High’s Block M Tournament.

Clay Cuneo fired nine points, while Eric Lewis had eight. East Union squares off with the winner of the Manteca-Tracy contest today at 8:15.

Freshman Boys

Sierra 42, West 30

Hunter Johnson’s 17 points sparked the Timberwolves (6-0) to an easy win in the Block M Tournament.

Jakob Gallagher scored 11 points. Sierra faces league foe Kimball at 5 in tonight’s semifinals.

East Union 62 Ripon 36

In a nonleague contest last Friday, Cody Keener erupted for 22 points and 18 rebounds to highlight a blowout win for the Pages. Lucas Garcia chimed in with 14 points.
