CERES — Lathrop High head coach Dimos Birakos had both good and bad news to report following the Spartan’s junior varsity tri-meet against Sierra and Central Valley Tuesday night.
The good news was a 54-24 win over the T’Wolves in which the Spartans won four of seven matches, but the bad news was a frustrating 42-39 loss to the Hawks in which Lathrop lost in its last match.
For Lathrop, Jared Veiler (103), Jeremy Asican (112), Andrew Aquino (119), Christian Pena (125), Elijah Cash (130), Nick Loosli (145) and Mark Maynard (152) all went 2-0.
Luis Oregel (140) and Jaime Flores (160) both went 1-1, while Myles Romo (135), Matt Arguello (171), Mark Carmisas (189) and Patric Insogna (215) all came up winless.
Lathrop forfeited at heavyweight.
Barry Baustista and Oscar Tapia both picked up exhibition wins by way of pin.
Lathrop travels to Sacramento Friday and Saturday for the Northern California girls tournament, and Escalon Saturday for the junior varsity event.
Sierra 51, Oakdale 22
Alysia Atkins and Jordan Johnson paced the T’Wolves with nine apiece, as Sierra’s stifling defense led to another win.
Sierra travels to Manteca Thursday.
Briona Fontenot was light out for the Squires hitting for 22 points in the blowout win.
EU (3-0 Valley Oak League, 9-3 overall) heads to Weston Ranch Thursday.
In Ceres, Gabby Escobedo scored 11, and Emily Owsley had 10 rebounds as Manteca shutout Ceres in the second quarter and cruised to victory.
The Buffs (3-1 VOL, 9-5 overall) host Sierra Thursday night.
Sierra 52, Oakdale 18
Sierra moved to 3-1 in VOL play and 12-4 overall behind 14 points from Shelby Sharrone and 12 from Allison Armstrong.
The T’Wolves face Manteca Thursday.
In Ceres, the Buffaloes suffered their first VOL loss despite outscoring Ceres 13-8 in the final frame.
Jessica Reeder paced Manteca with 18, and Mia Ramirez had 10.
Manteca (3-1 VOL, 8-5 overall) hosts Sierra Thursday.
The Pages moved to 3-0 in VOL play and 15-2 overall behind the sharp-shooting of Kristin Piasacki, who finished with 16 points and four steals.
EU travels to Weston Ranch Thursday.
