CERES — Lathrop High head coach Dimos Birakos had both good and bad news to report following the Spartan’s junior varsity tri-meet against Sierra and Central Valley Tuesday night.

The good news was a 54-24 win over the T’Wolves in which the Spartans won four of seven matches, but the bad news was a frustrating 42-39 loss to the Hawks in which Lathrop lost in its last match.

For Lathrop, Jared Veiler (103), Jeremy Asican (112), Andrew Aquino (119), Christian Pena (125), Elijah Cash (130), Nick Loosli (145) and Mark Maynard (152) all went 2-0.

Luis Oregel (140) and Jaime Flores (160) both went 1-1, while Myles Romo (135), Matt Arguello (171), Mark Carmisas (189) and Patric Insogna (215) all came up winless.

Lathrop forfeited at heavyweight.

Barry Baustista and Oscar Tapia both picked up exhibition wins by way of pin.

Lathrop travels to Sacramento Friday and Saturday for the Northern California girls tournament, and Escalon Saturday for the junior varsity event.
