Record-setting efforts fuel Spartans victory

Lathrop High’s track and field team swept at the varsity level in a Valley Oak League dual meet at East Union on Thursday.
The Spartans boys team throttled East Union 105-30, while the girls held on for a 75.5-58.5 win.
Lathrop was paced by record-setting performances by Elijah Hunter and Michael Ramos. Hunter set a new school record in the shot put with a 47-foot, 2-inch toss. He also won the discus throw. Ramos took second in his first try in the pole vault, and his 9-6 mark is a new school record.
Tremayne Willis won the 100- and 200-meter dashes. He was also joined by Galven Munoz, Anthony Santos and Ramos on the winning 4x100 relay.
Isaias Hunter was Lathrop’s top points producer with first-place finishes in the long, triple and high jumps. Christian Allamby and Chris McKay took the hurdle events, with Allamby winning the 300 and McKay the 110. Tyrell Cooper won the 400 and was the triple jump runner-up.
Lathrop’s girls contingent picked up big points in the 800 and mile, sweeping both events with Crystal Baltazar leading the charge. Myani Thornton led a sweep in the 100 and also won the 200.
Kalani Akers (long jump) and Danya Phillips (high jump) earned first-place points in the field events. Melinda Arciga became the first Lathrop girl to compete in the pole vault and cleared 6 feet. She was also the runner-up in both hurdles.
The frosh-soph competition was split, with Lathrop’s boys winning 72-64 and the East Union girls coming out on top, 93-33.
 
Varsity boys
Weston Ranch 59, Manteca 49
STOCKTON — Erron Duncan helped the Cougars prevail with wins in the 100 (10.97 seconds), 200 (23.51) and long jump (19-8 ¼). Cinque Benn took second in all three events.
Tomas Huerta won the 800 (2:11) and 1,600 (4:53), with Nicholas Curtright placing second in both.

Sierra 79, Central Catholic 50
The Timberwolves improved to 3-0 in the VOL.
Bikram Thiara spearheaded Sierra with wins in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and long jump. Kyle Wesley won the 100 and 200.
Sierra’s girls won handily 110-21.

Varsity girls
Manteca 76, Weston Ranch 17
STOCKTON — Daria Duncan led Weston Ranch with a first-place finish in the 400 (1:14) and second in the 200 (29.39).
Frosh-soph boys
Weston Ranch 62, Manteca 55
STOCKTON — Steven Hampton scored big points with wins in the triple jump and long jump as well as a second-place finish in the high jump.
Jeremiah Richardson won the 100 and 200 and took third in the long jump. Timothy Duong won the 800 and was second in the mile. Fletcher Pitts took first in the high jump and second in the 200.

Sierra 75, Central Catholic 55
Carson Matsuyama captured firsts in the 100 and 200 as the Timberwolves improved to 3-0.

Weston Ranch 45, Manteca 27
STOCKTON — Felicity Pitts was a four-event winner (400, 100, 200, long jump) for the Cougars. Crystal Lam took first in the 800 and 1,600.

Sierra 76, Central Catholic 35
Laica Marte placed first in the 200 and 400, while Malia Myers won the long and triple jumps.
