LATHROP — Lathrop’s boys soccer team showed a future Western Athletic Conference opponent what it has to look forward to on Tuesday.
The Spartans, who will play their final season in the Valley Oak League, dominated from the opening whistle and waxed visiting Mountain House, 7-0. Mountain House, currently in the Trans-Valley League, will also move into the revamped WAC next year.
“It was hard for us the last couple of years,” Lathrop coach Alfredo Reynaga said. “We were building the program up from scratch, but hopefully this is the year the kids will be able to showcase some of their talent.
The Spartans’ seniors led the way. Luis Angel Vargas netted a pair of goals and assisted three others. Ronaldo Macias also scored twice while contributing an assist. Christian Cardenas added a goal, as did sophomore Victor Enriquez and Justin Roaquin. Goalie Will Smith was hardly challenged in the shutout.
“We controlled the tempo for most of the game,” Reynaga said. “We have some work ahead of us, but we’re touching the ball really well.”
