Three Lancers each won two individual events to lead East Union’s swim team to an 87-71 triumph over shorthanded Sierra in a Valley Oak League dual meet Friday.

Host Sierra’s girls contingent won handily 107-60 to force a split while qualifying two relay teams to the Sac-Joaquin Section Trials.

East Union’s boys won two of the three relays and got big contributions from David Hudson, Lucas Romero and Elijah Salas.

Hudson paced the competition in the 200 individual medley (2 minutes, 28.78 seconds) and 500 freestyle (6:00.42). Romero took first in the 200 free (2:09.47) and 100 free (55.13). Elijah Salas claimed the 100 butterfly (59.42) and 100 backstroke (1:01.39).

Ryan Melton was Sierra’s lone individual winner. He checked in at 24.52 seconds in the 50 freestyle and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay.

“Our boys team was missing some swimmers, but we had some guys really step up,” Sierra coach Dave Breitenbucher said. “Overall, everybody did really well. It was the best our team has looked so far.”

For the girls, Sierra’s section-qualifying 200 medley relay team — consisting of Ashley McKinney, Marissa Machado, Rachel Holmstrom and Taylor Pereza — checked in with the winning time of 2:07.73 Holmstrom and McKinney joined Sophia Ferriera and Natalie Jamero for the 400 freestyle relay, earning a section berth with a second-place time of 4:16.75.

East Union’s 400 freestyle team also qualified and narrowly won the event in 4:16.54.

McKinney also won two individual events, finishing the 100 freestyle in 1:01.14 and the 100 backstroke in 1:10.11.

Also earning first-place points in the individual events for Sierra were Pereza (50 free, 28.34), Holmstrom (100 fly, 1:11.32) and Machado (100 breast, 1:19.77).

Standout Julia DeGroot led East Union. She turned in a section-qualifying time of 2:13.28 in the 200 freestyle and also won the 500 freestyle in 5:58.11.
