In a match between two of the more decorated programs in the Sac-Joaquin Section, the Manteca Buffaloes were able to use a strong team-wide effort to cruise past the Central Catholic Raiders 5-4 Wednesday in nonleague action.

Manteca got singles wins from Oral Nunis (6-4, 6-2), Brandon Sullivan (6-3, 6-4) and Josh Mariscal (7-6, 6-2) to give themselves a shot, and pulled the match out with a win from Breno Marchiari and Alex Vasquez (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) in No. 3 doubles play.

“This was a match between two of the top tennis programs in the southern half of the section,” Manteca head coach Frank Fontana said. “I’m really proud of how our guys competed to get a great win.

“They truly represented Manteca High well.”

Manteca (2-1) needed the best effort from each player in uniform, including freshman newcomer Jacob Webb who stepped up and made solid contributions in Manteca’s No. 2 doubles win with teammate Max Angelo (6-2, 4-6, 6-4).

The Buffaloes will be back on the court today for a scrimmage with Madera South, on their way to participate in the Clovis Tournament immediately following.
