Manteca frosh claim Ripon tourney

RIPON — Kaitlyn Morenzone averaged 18.7 points and 11.3 rebounds and was named MVP after leading the Manteca High freshman girls basketball team to the Ripon Tournament title last Wednesday.

The Buffaloes toppled the tournament host 40-31 in the final round, avenging a previous loss to the Indians just two weeks prior in East Union’s Camelot Classic. Morenzone had 16 points and six rebounds in the title game, while Adrianna Valencia contributed 10 points. Makenna Condit added six points and six assists and was named to the all-tournament team along with Hazel Vera.

Manteca opened tournament play with a 41-11 rout of Buhach Colony. Morenzone amassed 18 points and 12 boards, while Vera chipped in six points, five rebounds and five steals.

The Buffaloes then dispatched Lincoln 42-29 in the semifinals. Morenzone anchored the win with 22 points and 16 rebounds. Arianna Melena had nine points, five rebounds and five assists. Valencia turned in six points, four steals and three assists.
