Manteca High showed well in the first day of the California Girls Tennis Classic in Clovis, winning two of its three matches.
There ended up being a three-way tie for first place in its pool, but Manteca ended up in second place based on the sets-won tiebreaker.
The Buffaloes opened with a 2-4 loss to Clovis West. Rosa Zou (6-2, 7-5) and Noha Elabed (6-2, 7-5) picked up the Buffaloes’ lone points.
Manteca bounced back with a 4-2 victory over Tehachapi. Zou again won from the No. 1 singles position, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4). Wendy Lin (7-6, 6-0), Elabed (6-2, 6-0) and the top doubles team of Kaile Hunt and Liz Diaz (6-1, 6-3) did the rest of the damage.
The team then closed Day 1 with a resounding 6-0 shutout of Nevada Union. Point scorers were: Zou (7-6, 6-0), Lin (6-2, 6-0), Adaeze Nkwocha (6-0, 6-0), Jenny Yu/Elizabeth Tolbert (6-0, 6-1), Hunt/Diaz (6-0, 6-4) and Julia Saling/Sealy McAdams (6-4, 7-5).
Others playing matches were Weley Lin, Katie Inderbitzin and Ashlee Miller.
Manteca starts the second day at 10 a.m. against Atascadero.
