Manteca High center back Brooklyn Cornish has earned the Valley Oak League’s Defensive Player of the Year award, while East Union sophomore Kadence Rossi was named the top goalkeeper.
They’re among the 16 Manteca Unified athletes named to the All-VOL girls soccer team.
Two of the major awards went to outright champion Oakdale (12-0, 23-3-2 overall), as junior midfielder Dakota Burford was crowned MVP, while freshman Layla Garcia-Gonzalez garnered Offensive Player of the Year. They led the Mustangs to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV title and the CIF Division III Northern Regional final.
Cornish, a four-year starter, anchored a Manteca back line that surrendered 11 goals in 12 league appearances and 25 goals in 28 overall matches. Not only did the Pacific signee provide a commanding calming presence on the defensive end, but she was also the Buffaloes’ most dangerous receivers of set-piece services. Cornish contributed three goals and one assist in league play, and six goals and two assists overall.
Manteca (6-2-4, 18-6-4) finished third in the competitive VOL and reached the second round of the SJS Division II playoffs. Junior midfielder Makayla Spencer joins Cornish on the all-league team after netting a team-high eight league assists to go with four goals.
Runner-up Sierra (8-3-1, 22-6-1), and SJS Division III semifinalist, has three all-league, first team selections.
Leading the Timberwolves is third-time first-team member Maitland Kohoutek, who contributed one goal and five assists in the VOL.
Freshman Diana Reyes also made first team after scoring seven goals and four assists in league. Her 26 goals and nine assists for 61 points for the season are a team-high. Senior defender Natalie Ruvalcaba rounds out the trio. She added four goals and two assists to the attack, on top of her defensive responsibilities.
Rossi was once again one of the best shot stoppers in the section. Her 192 overall saves rank her No. 2 in the SJS and 16th in the state. She racked up 105 of them in 12 league appearances, good for a whopping 8.8 per game, and twice had 15 in 2-0 losses to Sierra.
Junior midfielder Alexa Bretao (two assists) and junior defender Geonna Flores also represent the Lancers (4-6-2, 11-13-3) on the All-VOL first team.
Sierra is represented by senior wing forward Leslie Reyes (nine goals, three assists), senior midfielder Haley Gama (two goals, five assists) and junior midfielder Zoe Sutton (four goals, three assists) on the all-league second team. Reyes is the 2025 MVP.
Manteca has two second-teamers in junior goalkeeper Tina Macomber (79 saves, nine goals allowed) and sophomore midfielder Leslie Gutierrez.
Addyson Soulier (goal, assist) and Jaelyn Jaurigue (goal) are East Union’s second-team selections.
Making honorable mention: Gissell Reyes Andrea Guibor and Janelle Marquez for East Union; Shayla Cline, Anaya McDonald and Shayla Cline for Sierra; and Layla Flannigan for Manteca.
