Mustangs use 7th rally to defeat East Union High

The visiting Oakdale Mustangs (1-0 VOL, 5-5 overall) got four runs on four hits in the second inning and four more runs in the seventh inning for the come-from-behind 8-5 win against East Union High at Agostini Field. 

“We couldn’t hold them in the seventh,” Lancers coach Dan Triglia said. “We didn’t shut them down and they did a good job of putting the ball in play with clutch hits.” 

With East Union (0-1, 3-2) trailing 4-3 going into the sixth, Tyler Soulier singled to start the frame for the Lancers, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Danny Marquez (3 for 5, double, two runs) to tie the game. Marquez scored on a bases-loaded walk to Jake Souza (two RBI) for a 5-4 lead. 

Marquez doubled in the first inning and scored on a bases-loaded walk to Tyler Slaughter. In the fifth a sacrifice fly by Andrew Morones scored Cameron Ceja and Mason James scored on an RBI single by Souza. 

 

Ripon 16,

McNair of Stockton 0 (5)

RIPON – Indians sophomore Sean McCann picked did well in his first start, holding the Eagles (1-6) to just one hit while striking out seven . 

“He did pretty well we are pretty happy with him,” Ripon coach Jacob Rodriguez said. 

“We played well I am very happy with how we hit.

“We are getting ready for league so that is a good start.”  

Donald Cooksey hit his third home run of the season for the Indians (6-1). Gerald Mix was 2 for 4 with three RBI and Jacob Gahm had an RBI double.

 

Sierra 3, Atwater 2

With the Timberwolves (4-2) leading by a run in the top of the seventh inning, Jason Silva took the hill for Sierra with the bases loaded for the Falcons (3-5) and two outs. Silva struck out the only batter he faced to end the game. 

The Timberwolves scored two in the third inning on a solo homerun by Jared Bagley and a two-out single by Jacob Peterson.  Sierra broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth when J.T. Ortiz-Martinez scored on a wild pitch.  

 

Sophomore

Oakdale 10,

East Union 6

The Mustangs scored nine runs in the first three innings and the Lancers were unable to recover. 

Josh Grabowski went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two triples to lead East Union. Victor 

Alonzo (three RBI, double) and Scotty Armstrong (RBI) were each 2 for 3 and Carlos Alvarez (double) went 1 for 4.

 

Manteca 6, Beyer 1

Rafael Diaz pitched six innings for the Buffaloes (6-0-1), allowing just two hits while striking out 10 and walking none.

Diaz was 2 for 2 with four RBI, a double and a walk and Isaiah Perez went 2 for 4 with two RBI and a pair of doubles.
