RIPON — The Ripon Christian Knights ceremoniously cut down the nets Friday after their 63-17 trouncing over Gustine.

It was part of chalking up another Southern League crown — RC’s second straight — and concluding the regular season with a perfect 14-0 mark, 22-5 overall.

The Knights came out strong on senior night, jumping out to a 20-1 first-quarter lead led by Jared Goslinga. The 6-foot-5 forward scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in that run.

Goslinga along with his twin brother, Jordan, Josh Van Groningen, James Vander Schaaf, and team manager Anton Den Dulk were honored prior to the game.

Den Dulk was allowed to suit up just for this game.

“Anton was eligible to play because of football,” RC coach Ron Vander Molen. “The other players were supportive of him being in the lineup.”

Den Dulk had a memorable game, scoring six points.

Vander Molen wasn’t sure if his team was ready to play given the distractions of senior night.

“We didn’t do well in practice,” he said.

Come tip-off, RC was off and running. Besides Jared Goslinga, Dan Vos and Darren Boersma also shredded the Redskins, scoring seven points each in the second quarter.

At one point, the Knights reeled off 25-straight points in the first half, building up a 27-1 advantage.

By the half, RC held an overwhelming 43-6 edge.

Vander Molen also praised his team’s defensive effort. Indicative of that was Gustine (2-12, 4-22) managing just two field goals in the span.

The Knights continued to execute on both ends of the court while adding to their, in turn, forcing a running clock for the final period.

Vos finished with 12 while Boersma had seven.

Now comes the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 5 playoffs. RC will face a tough No. 6 seed, Vander Molen predicts, following a first-round bye.

The playoff schedule will be announced on Sunday.

“The playoffs will be challenging,” Vander Molen said. “Everything we did up to this point is in the past.

“Now it’s one game at a time.”

The Knights clinched the Southern League title with their one-sided victory.

Erik Broker netted a game-high 25. Jake Schollenberg and Austin Alger added 16 and 12, respectively.

The RC freshmen boys also won, grabbing the league title. Ripon Christian captured all five basketball championships in the SL, with the varsity and sophomore girls squads celebrating theirs on Thursday.
