STOCKTON — Ripon High had a solid day Wednesday at the Trans Valley League Track and Field Championship held at DeRicco Stadium on the campus of Delta College.

Both the Indian boys and girls finished third overall and had a number of athletes qualify for the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships May 19 and 21 at Modesto Junior College.

Ripon Christian, meanwhile, sent an individual representative to the TVL meet and she came up huge.

Not only did RC freshman Essence White break a personal record in the long jump with a leap of 16-feet, 10-inches, but the mark was also good enough for first overall and a trip to sections.

Eddie Martin, a senior at Ripon, finished first in the 400 and runner-up in both the 100 and 200 (22.8 seconds, personal record).

Martin also anchored the 4 x 100 relay team that finished first overall.

“Eddie has been there all year for us,” Ripon head coach Jorge Velasco said. “He’s our top runner. He works very hard and he’s very dedicated to his sport.”

Kayla Vadnal took home top honors in the 100 and was second in the 200.

Vadnal also anchored the Indians’ 4 x 100 relay squad which came up just short to event winner Riverbank.

Bryce Heckman finished second in the shot put and third in the discus, and Alicia McPherson was runner-up in the 100 and part of the runner-up 4x100 team.

Sophomore Victor Solano finished second in a neck-and-neck 800, and the girls mile relay squad finished third.

“It was successful,” Velasco said. “We got wins where we thought we would get them. We came up short in the pole vault, but the relay teams did well. It was a pretty successful day.”
